Overseas property purchases 'to go up by a quarter'

The number of overseas property purchases could rise by more than a quarter in the next few months, according to new estimates.

Moneycorp has predicted that during autumn, the number of British people buying abroad will go up by approximately 26 per cent.

This, it said, would take the number of Britons who own foreign properties to record levels.

Nick Bull, spokesperson for Moneycorp, commented: "Interest in buying abroad can quickly strengthen after a few weeks back in Britain as the days shorten and the weather takes a turn for the worse, not that it has been great anyhow."

The firm added that people were using their summer holidays to find prospective properties, as they were tempted by the different culture, lifestyle and standard of living in other countries.

This comes after Foreign Currency Direct said that many people were moving abroad because they did not like the way of life in the UK and problems such as anti-social behaviour.
