Overseas property purchases 'support aviation sector'

The increasing popularity of buying second homes overseas is helping to boost the airline industry, an expert has said.

Harry Bush of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the outlook for the sector was positive because a growing number of people were setting up home in other countries.

Speaking to the Guardian, director of economic regulation Harry Bush said this had led to optimism in the airline industry about its future.

He commented: "There are demographic factors such as more single people, increasing numbers living abroad - these factors, longer term, support air travel."

Recent figures from the CAA revealed that people who own a foreign property take 55 per cent more flights than regular leisure travellers.

The National Association of Estate Agents recently stated that Britons were likely to remain interested in buying abroad during the next few years at least.

According to the organisation, international economic events in recent months have not shaken consumer confidence and people's "love for overseas property" is still strong.
