Olympic skier praises Montenegrin slopes

A former Olympic skier has praised the natural landscape in Montenegro and its potential for winter sports.

Boris Strel, who represented Yugoslavia in the 1980s, said the Savin Kuk region in particular offered good conditions for activities such as skiing.

He was quoted by the Visit Montenegro website as saying that the area has "phenomenal conditions" for winter sports fans.

Mr Strel commented: "With a little extra work this could become a top ski resort."

He added that since the area has been blessed with natural beauty, local authorities need to take advantage of the assets they have and invest in it further.

According to the Visit Montenegro website, much of the investment in the eastern European country is centred on the coast.

Mr Strel's comments suggest that other regions are likely to open up to consumers in the future, a development which could make them appealing to overseas property buyers.

BalkanInsight.com recently described Montenegro as a "paradise" for foreign investors.
