Older Britons plan to move abroad
Many older people in the UK are thinking of relocating to another country, according to new research.
A study by Prudential found that 1 in 5 Britons who are retiring this year want to purchase a home in a new area.
More than half of this group said they intend to buy an overseas property and live abroad on a permanent basis.
Meanwhile, one in four respondents said they plan to divide their time between the UK and a foreign location, possibly spending at least 3 months overseas.
Gary Shaughnessy, managing director of Prudential Retail Life & Pensions, commented: "Improving healthcare and greater longevity mean those retiring today are likely to be able to enjoy far more active lives through their pensionable years than any previous generation."
Just 14% of respondents said they wanted to relax and put their feet up during retirement, while more than half said they would take the opportunity to do all those things they have always wanted to do.
This comes after Dave Isley of NatWest said it is now easier than ever to travel between different parts of the world.
This, he stated, had led to people having the chance to either work overseas or enjoy a different lifestyle in another country.
