Off-plan property investment is on the up, new figures suggest
New home registrations are increasing as more people choose to invest in off-plan properties, according to the National House Building Council (NHBC).
The latest figures reveal that there were over 9,000 new homes registered in October, the highest level since July 2008. Over the past three months the NHBC said there has been a 27% increase on last year.
Steve Turner, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation (HBF), said: "We know that longer term there is a huge demand for new homes. What we have got to do is ensure we maintain the extra capacity throughout the downturn, so that the industry is fit for purpose to deliver the homes we are going to need moving forward."
He added that the government should continue with stimulus measures to aid the industry's recovery.
Off-plan property investment has a number of advantages.
Investors are able to secure the property at the value of today's market and the eventual resale price should increase while you're building. It is also sometimes possible to pay developers in stages, avoiding the one off payment needed for a pre built property.
