Nostalgic Britons 'relive youth abroad'
Revisiting previous holiday destinations is becoming an increasingly popular trend among British travellers, TravelMole reports.
Research by Expedia revealed that 90% of people from the UK had gone back to locations that held a personal significance for them, such as the place where they went on honeymoon.
Spain and France were cited as two of the most popular destinations among nostalgic Britons, prompting the firm to suggest that people's attachments to has helped to sustain their tourist markets.
Caroline Cartellieri, managing director of Expedia, commented: "Nostalgia has become a big driver in destination choice."
She added that there had recently been an increase in the number of people choosing to visit traditional European holiday destinations, despite the emergence of "new and exotic" places.
According to recent research by the Post Office, about 2.4 million Britons will spend Christmas Day and New Year's Eve out of the country.
