North Africa 'could see economic boom'

A Tunisian media outlet is predicting a positive outlook for the regional economy in north Africa.

Babnet.com stated that the area was attracting an increased level of interest from overseas, both as a holiday destination and investment market.

The website highlighted Morocco as an example of one country that was "booming", partly because its free market economy allowed for unrestricted movement of money.

Commenting on the country, Babnet.com said: "Morocco is a unique location for property investors and tourism."

The online portal added that if the political climate in north Africa continued to remain positive, the region was likely to see an economic boom in the next few years.

According to Panapress, the Moroccan economy recently benefited from growth in its holiday industry.

Tourism minister Mohamed Boussaid told the news provider that the overall amount produced by the sector last year was likely to work out at more than £3.9 billion - up from £3.5 billion in 2006.
