Nokia to invest in EUR200 million plant in Romania

Nokia has announced that it will construct a EUR200 million (£135 million) manufacturing facility in Romania, according to recent reports.

The world's largest mobile phone manufacturer will this week sign an agreement with the Romanian government to build a production and research facility in the country, Playfuls.com has reported.

The local economy could be set for a major boost as part of the agreement includes tax breaks on the land to be used for the facility, as well as around EUR33 million of investment from the Romanian government.

Some 15,000 people will be employed by the plant, which is being constructed to meet increasing demand and to ease the manufacturing burden on other plants, the Budapest Business Journal reports.

In addition, the facility - to be located in Cluj - will also include a dedicated Nokia shop.

Recently, Romanian fixed and greenfield mobile phone operator RCS & CDS selected Nokia to provide a 3G and radio network service.
