New port 'a possibility'

A new port terminal in Bulgaria could be completed by the end of 2007, according to reports.

The port will handle traffic such as containers and will be positioned in Varna, stated Borislav Gutsanov, chairperson of the city municipal council, reports the Sofia Echo.

In addition, the earliest date for financial negotiations to begin regarding the project is this September, the paper added.

Once completed, it is expected to cost about 100 million euros (£67.1 million), it said.

If the project goes ahead, it will be the first of its kind in the country, the reports suggested.

Currently, environmental concerns are being addressed.

Earlier this week, a duo of firms announced that they will aim to produce agricultural goods in Bulgaria, news that may be of interest to potential property investors.

Engineering and Green House are set to invest in the project that may generate 4,000 new jobs the country.
