New flights to boost Bodrum's tourism industry
Holiday home investors in Bodrum, Turkey, can expect an increase in Scottish tourists after new flights have been announced to the peninsula.
The British Airports Authority has announced that new direct flights will be available to the exotic location from Edinburgh Airport, as well as new direct routes to other European countries including Spain.
Managing director of Edinburgh Airport Richard Jeffrey said: "We listen to what our passengers tell us and we know there is a real desire for people to be able to fly direct from their local airport."
The announcement is good news for Turkey's tourism industry which has been facing stiff competition for visitors from other eastern destinations such as Bulgaria and Croatia.
Board member of the Turkey Travel Agencies' union Gulnur Ozalp last month urged the country to develop a state tourism policy to attract more visitors.
Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan asserted that tourism was important to Turkey politically and culturally as well as contributing 5% of gross national product.
