Morocco: An adventurous place to explore world music
Morocco is an adventurous place to explore world music, featuring some of the greatest musical talent on earth, according to one travel writer.
Writing in the Telegraph, Peter Culshaw visited the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music and said he witnessed a "beacon of hope" as people of all religions and ethnicity gathered to exchange musical ideas.
He explained that there is a diverse range of acts that bring an air of unpredictability that other folk festivals - such as the UK's Womad - fail to match.
"Fes makes most other world music festivals, like Womad, look pedestrian and predictable in comparison. Its rivals as far as adventurousness goes are also in Morocco - the country seems to be specialising in such festivals," he wrote.
Mr Culshaw also noted that Morocco has become something of a musical epicentre - with the Gnawa Festival in Essaouira on June 22nd 2007, as well as the Agadir festival later in the year.
