Moroccan tourism creating new jobs

Tourism in Morocco is leading to the creation of thousands of new jobs across the country, it has been revealed.

Employment minister Jamal Aghmani stated that one in ten vacancies in the north African nation were in the holiday industry.

Speaking to the Maghreb Arabe Press, he added that the country was currently aiming to train more people in order to handle the growing number of visitors.

Mr Aghmani said that between 2001 and 2006, the amount of people taken on by training centres working in the tourism sector grew by 51%.

The government has pledged to boost the number from its current level of 4,033 to 72,000 by 2010.

This is a measure of how far the government is willing to invest in boosting the Moroccan tourism industry.

Last week, Magharebia.com cited figures from Morocco's Commerce, Industry and Services Chamber which showed tourism accounted for more than half of overall government investment last year.
