Moroccan city provides taste of history

Holidaymakers and property owners can experience authentic Moroccan history and culture by visiting Fez, it has been claimed.

The fourth largest city in Morocco after Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakesh, Fez lacks the modern development of those destinations and is therefore not one of the north African country's busiest spots for foreign visitors.

However, nuwireinvestor.com reports that travellers looking for a true taste of Moroccan life are often attracted to the ancient city.

Blogger and writer Suzanna Clarke, who has published a book about restoring an old property in Fez, told the website about her passion for the area.

"Walking through the narrow streets of the medina, where there are no cars but instead donkeys and foot traffic, we felt as though we had been plunged back to the 14th century," she said of her first visit.

"We decided to buy a riad in Fez to immerse ourselves in the culture in a much deeper way than is possible on a holiday."

The Telegraph recently reported that Morocco's rich culture and accessibility are two of the main reasons for the country's growing popularity with British property buyers.
