More than 1 million will visit Montenegro this year

The Montenegrin tourist industry is bracing itself for a dramatic increase in visitors this year due to the increased exposure the country received in 2006.

The Ministry of Tourism is predicting that for the first time Montenegro will receive more than 1.1 million guests - 10% more than last year and the first time the industry has broken the 1 million mark.

Visit Montenegro cites the influence of Montenegro being the setting of James Bond blockbuster Casino Royale in promoting the country as an intriguing and undiscovered destination.

Tourism minister Jelena Paovic expects half a million of 2007's tourists to come from abroad, and predicts they will between them spend around 3 million nights in the country.

As well as the demand for holiday homes and apartments to stay in, the influx of foreign tourists will also inject a considerable sum of money into the Montenegrin state's economy. Ms Paovic is planning for tourism income of Ôé¼350 million (~£234 million), which is 17% more than the industry generated last year.
