Montenegro free to rise up tourist ladder
Montenegro, one of the world's newest independent countries, is an example the world should follow when it comes to tourism, it was claimed this week.
The compliment was delivered this week by Jean Claude Baumgarten, president of the World counsel for tourism and traveling, at the organisation's 7th annual summit in Lisbon, visit-montenegro.com reports.
According to the World council, the country is experiencing high tourist growth which will increase by 10% annually over the next decade, the report added.
This may greatly increase the potential of the property investment market in the country as more tourists come to the Balkan country, which enjoys a lengthy coastline on the shores of the Adriatic.
Modern Montenegro came into being as an independent state less than a year ago when a referendum saw the majority voting to split with Serbia, marking the final breakup of the old Yugoslavia.
Montenegro had previously been an independent nation between 1878 and 1918 until it was united with several other Balkan countries to form Yugoslavia after WWI.
