Marriot development cements Morocco's status as luxury tourism destination
Hotel chain Marriot International has announced its investment in a new resort in Marrakesh, furthering Morocco's reputation as a destination for luxury travel.
The new Marriot Palm Golf Hotel is due to open in 2012 and will be the chain's first development in the country.
Once completed, the complex will boast 216 rooms, a golf course and country club. The Times recently named Morocco as one of the top destinations for investment in golf property.
Ed Fuller, president & managing director international lodging for Marriott, said: The Middle East appears to have weathered the global economic storm and were beginning to look forward to rising occupancies through the end of this year and into next. "
He added that they "expect the Middle East and Africa as a whole to play an increasingly important role in the future".
It is one in a number of developments which have been announced in the country recently including a £120 million venture by Monte Carlo SBM in Marrakesh. Over 400,000 British tourists already visit the country each year, according to figures from the UK Foreign Office.
