Malaga 'the first Wi-Fi city'

Malaga is set to become Spain's first Wi-Fi city and one of the first in the world, in a move that could have strong benefits for the city's economy.

City mayor Franciso de la Torre has asserted that plans to introduce complete Wi-Fi coverage across Malaga could be realised in the near future. His comments come after the awarding of a contract to telecoms firm Fon Espana for the implementation of blanket Wi-Fi internet.

It has been announced that 80% of Malaga will be Wi-Fi enabled within the next six months, firmly establishing the city as a leading international example of wide-scale Wi-Fi connectivity. Many believe that this will boost the local economy, enabling small businesses to improve their operations while offering reliable wireless internet to residents.

As such, it is thought that a growing number of people could be attracted to Malaga for these reasons with the appeal of Wi-Fi internet for locals as well as visitors.

Once the Wi-Fi network has been established, Malaga would join the likes of Los Angeles, San Francisco and the Dalai Lama City (Ladakh).
