Mainland Europe opened up by LBA

Consumers in West Yorkshire will soon be able to benefit from new flights to mainland Europe.

Thomas Cook Airlines has announced that it will introduce a raft of extra services from Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) later this year.

The airline will increase its capacity by 20% ahead of the summer season, offering direct flights to places such as Spain, Greece, Portugal and Turkey.

Services to islands such as the Canaries, the Balearics and Cyprus will also be launched at the same time.

This represents a further improvement to the ease of access to these destinations and could potentially boost their tourist trades.

Furthermore, the enhanced connectivity could lead to more overseas property buyers in West Yorkshire considering these countries as viable destinations.

Commenting on the move, Frank Pullman of Thomas Cook Airlines said: "Everyone at the airline has worked incredibly hard in preparation for the summer season, so we are looking forward to serving the holidaymakers of Yorkshire."

Meanwhile, LBA's Tony Hallwood has predicted that regional airports in the UK will become more and more popular.

He said the introduction of direct flights from local portals means that consumers no longer have to travel via London-based airports such as Heathrow.
