Luxury lifestyle in Turkey booms despite recession

People living in Turkey have developed a taste for luxury during the economic crisis, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.

The newspaper published information that the industry for wellness and spa centres is booming as they are no longer the preserve of the affluent few.

In an interview for the Hurriyet Economic Review, Tarik Yalcin, sales and marketing executive for Adam and Eve Hotels, said: "They are not seen as therapy or healing centers any longer, but have been included in the everyday life of the general public".

Another industry expert said that the industry contributes a huge amount of money to the economy and acts as a draw to tourists.

The news provides an indication to how standards of living in Turkey are still good despite the global recession. Europe's largest mega mall, Forum Istanbul, has recently opened in the capital and the city has been experiencing a significant amount of investment thanks to its title as the 2010 European Capital of Culture.

Property prices in the country are still providing great opportunities for investment as the lira exchange rate against the pound remains low.
