Italian property purchase 'is straightforward'
Overseas property investors have been advised to consider the Italian market, as the process of making a purchase is relatively straightforward.
Former journalist Peter Greene stated that citizens from countries in the European Union would not find many problems while buying residence in Italy.
Writing in the Telegraph, he said that people from further afield should also be able to avoid many "bureaucratic hurdles", although both groups were told that they still had to complete some "thorough" paperwork.
Mr Greene added that the Italian tax system was also fairly uncomplicated and that the health service was modern and well-run.
However, he stated that if people were choosing to invest in areas that were not heavily populated by holidaymakers and British expats, they may benefit from learning a few lines of the local language.
Speaking to the newspaper, he said: "Remember that outside the main tourist spots, you will not necessarily find people who can speak English."
This follows recent research by Foreign Currency Direct which showed that only one in ten people who were thinking of moving abroad permanently were learning the language of their chosen destination.
