Investors 'need to be level-headed'

Overseas property buyers have been advised to remain calm when looking at prospective purchases and not to be swayed by hype.

According to Shelter Offshore, there is currently an "overwhelming amount" of positive press relating to buying abroad, despite the ongoing economic slowdown in the UK.

Therefore, people who are planning to snap up a foreign residence have been encouraged to be level-headed when reading promotional material from companies who are desperate to sell their stock.

Shelter Offshore commented: "One has to be wise and savvy when it comes to considering buying property abroad - no matter which property in which country."

The online portal added that investors should apply common sense when looking at possible acquisitions and look beyond a company's "marketing magic".

Earlier this week, Investec Private Bank revealed that the slowdown in the British housing market has dented the appeal of the country among many top-end buyers in the UK.

Therefore, a growing number are turning their attentions toward prime areas in countries such as Italy and France.
