Investors look outside eurozone

Overseas property buyers are increasingly looking beyond eurozone countries, an expert has stated.

Mark Bishop, founder of A Place in the Sun Live, stated that a growing number of investors are shunning traditional hotspots such as France.

Instead, many were said to be looking further afield to countries which do not use the single currency, in particular those in eastern and south-east Europe.

Mr Bishop commented: "Countries such as Turkey are growing in popularity among buyers wanting some personal use of holiday properties.

"Pure investors are purchasing increasingly in the EU accession states."

Speaking to the Independent, Mr Bishop said this trend has come about as a result of rapid growth in their housing markets.

He told the newspaper that these countries are widely considered to offer better potential for capital gains.

The comments follow the recent A Place in the Sun Live exhibition, which was held at Birmingham NEC.

Speaking after the event, Mr Bishop said it was "pleasingly busy", despite the general downturn in the economy.
