Holidaymakers 'spending record amounts in Brazil'
Tourist spending in Brazil has reached record levels, according to official figures.
Data from the Brazilian Central Bank showed that between January and November 2007, foreign visitors spent £2.3 billion in the country, reports the Brazil-Arab News Agency.
This is 3.89% higher than the amount spent by holidaymakers during the whole of the previous year and an all-time record for Brazil.
The strong rate of growth has prompted officials to predict that the overall revenue generated by foreign visitors this year will be 15% up on 2006.
Commenting on the expanding tourist market, the Brazilian tourist board said holidaymakers were also spending more time in the country.
This will be good news for owners of rental accommodation in popular holiday destinations, as they will be likely to see high occupancy rates for their properties.
Brazil's tourist industry is set for a further boost in 2012, as it will host the football World Cup during the summer of that year.
