Holiday accommodation encouraging tourism in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's burgeoning tourist and property markets are spurring each other on as increased infrastructure enables more people to visit, which in turn encourages more investment.

Over Ôé¼150 million (~£100 million) of investment has gone into Bulgaria's ski resorts over the past few years, and that money is making the country more attractive to tourists.

Nina McMaster of skiing holiday company Neilson said that the growth of ski tourism in the country over the past two years is mainly due to the number of new hotels and apartments that have been developed.

The growing numbers of tourists makes the country increasingly attractive to investors, and it is not just ski tourism they can rely on in coming years.

There is also a growing interest in green tourism thanks to the country's natural beauty, and the Black Sea coast is attracting visitors in search of health spas and traditional beach holidays.

Tourists visiting Bulgaria for spa treatments increased by 20% in 2006 and tourism revenue in the country is expected to total Ôé¼2.5 billion (~£1.7 billion) this year.
