Growing rail network 'could affect take-up of flights'
The growth of the rail network across Europe could potentially affect the aviation industry, experts have predicted.
Rail Europe stated that the introduction of high-speed services between cities such as Paris and London meant that trains were becoming a realistic alternative to flying to these destinations.
The organisation added that the possibility of further rail links opening between the UK and Spain meant that the ease of access by land was getting better.
A spokesperson for Rail Europe commented: "Throughout a lot of Europe the high-speed network is improving and increasing all the time."
She added that the introduction of faster train services between major European destinations would reduce the overall journey times for passengers.
This, she said, meant that train services were becoming a "much more attractive" proposition.
The comments follow the recent launch of a high-speed rail link between London's St Pancras International and Paris.
Eurostar's new service allows that people to travel between the two destinations in two hours and 15 minutes.
