'Greater quality of life' abroad

A high number of British people are choosing to head for the sun to get away from the high cost of living, according to new research carried out by Alliance & Leicester International (ALIL).

In total, 52% of those surveyed said that they have opted to live abroad because they wanted to improve their quality of life.

First choices in Europe for people looking to move away are still France and Spain, ALIL said.

Managing director at the company Simon Hull said that with sufficient planning, the move abroad can be highly beneficial.

"For the many people in a hurry to start a new life abroad, it is important to properly prepare for relocation. Moving country is not just a case of buying a house and packing your bags, it involves a lot of organisation," he commented.

The company gave some detailed advice to potential property investors, including searching for relevant bank accounts and insurance policies.

Recent comments from the Bank of Spain suggest that a high number of expats move around regularly in Spain due to new jobs.
