Good news from house builders
The latest statistics from the National House-Building Council (NHBC) show that there has been the first rise in almost two years in the number of applications to build new homes. Regions in the South and East of England received the most applications in the first three months of 2009 and accounted for 50% of all enquiries.
The Guardian newspaper also featured a story on Redrow and Galliford Try, two of the UK’s leading housebuilders. Both companies have recognised some signs of recovery. After suspending work on a number of sites for nearly 12 months, Redrow are beginning to commission homes again and are looking to expand their workforce.
Galliford Try has just bought five housing sites in Hull and York from developer Wright (Hull) ltd for £7m and is one of the final three companies shortlisted to build approximately 300 apartment in the 2012 Olympic Village.
