Global tourism sector set to grow
The number of people taking holidays abroad is set to go up to 1.1 billion with 2 years, new estimates have revealed.
According to figures from Vision/Totem, the global tourism industry is likely to continue experiencing growth between now and 2010, reports TravelMole.
Valere Tjolle, editor of the organisation's new Sustainable Tourism Report, said this is despite various environmental concerns and ongoing problems in the worldwide economy.
She commented: "A real increase is on the cards, both in quantity and quality of tourists."
However, high fuel prices across the world were flagged up as a factor that could impede growth in the sector, along with the rising cost of food.
Ms Tjolle added that growth in the global tourism sector has also been affected by greater awareness of climate change.
Meanwhile, travel firm Thomson has highlighted north Africa as a good place for consumers to visit this year.
According to the company, countries such as Morocco are particularly good to visit during the winter months.
