German tourists 'visiting Bulgaria'

Bulgaria is still a highly popular destination among German holidaymakers, according to media reports.

The Sofia Echo stated this week that the number of tourists from Germany in areas such as the Black Sea went up during summer 2007, following a gradual decline in recent years.

According to the newspaper, tourism from Germany peaked four years ago before the numbers started to drop.

However, Kalin Sutev from tour operator ITS said that the German market was stabilising after recent difficulties, leading to an increased number of holidaymakers visiting the country.

Meanwhile, the newspaper has also reported on the launch of new flights between Bulgaria and 11 major cities by Sky Europe.

The low-cost carrier will allow cheap access to Bulgaria from places such as Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, potentially boosting tourism and overseas property investment in the country.

Other cities to be serviced by the company will include Warsaw, Venice, Nice and Athens.
