FTBs investing overseas for 'purely financial' reasons
The increasing number of Britons looking for property abroad does not necessary indicate dissatisfaction with the UK lifestyle, with most people investing for purely financial reasons.
According to an advisor to first-time buyers, the majority of people looking abroad to get onto the property ladder are not attracted by sun and sand, but by potential returns on their investment.
Helen Adams, managing director of FirstRungNow, said that first-time buyers are looking overseas for "purely financial" reasons, seeing capital growth as a way of affording a deposit on a UK home.
Ms Adams asserted that the emerging markets of Eastern Europe are proving popular for the high level of potential growth they offer.
"Quite a lot of people are looking at Eastern Europe; Romania, Bulgaria and also Turkey. The cheaper places where they're going to get the most growth," she said.
In addition to first-time buyers hoping to build up a deposit, recent research suggests a significant proportion of people investing in overseas property are doing so to create a nest-egg for retirement.
