France and Spain named as the 'most desirable' European property investment destinations

France and Spain are the most desirable European property investment destinations, according to the findings of a new report from a financial services provider.

The Bank of Scotland found that six per cent of people would like to buy property or move abroad to France, with five per cent expressing the same wishes for moving Spain.

The survey also revealed that nearly a fifth of people who would like to purchase overseas property are based in the south-east, with 10% located in the north-west.

However, the bank also warned that people thinking about moving abroad should give careful consideration to their personal finances to make sure that that "the right products and services are in place" for their life overseas.

Tony Wilcox, managing director of Bank of Scotland International, commented: "When moving abroad there are many aspects of life which British expatriates have to adjust to and personal finance is no exception."

Property markets in both France and Spain have been the subject of speculation recently - the latter because of share price collapses in property firms and France because of the election of a new president, Nicolas Sarkozy.
