France aims to attract more visitors
Tourism officials in France have launched a new initiative designed to attract more visitors to the country.
Although France remains the most popular holiday destination in the world, it has recently been dealing with strong competition from emerging markets such as Russia and Dubai, reports AFP.
This has led to its share of the world tourism market dropping slightly in the last few years - a development which has prompted the government to act.
Herve Novelli, France's junior tourism minister, has outlined a number of measures designed to change the current trend.
This will include allowing more budget airlines to service French airports, while various services for leisure travellers will be enhanced and upgraded.
In addition, Mr Novelli revealed that he is keen to attract visitors from emerging locations such as Brazil, India and China.
Data from the country's tourism ministry shows that France attracted nearly 82 million visitors in 2007, reports Reuters.
This is 4% up on the figure recorded 12 months earlier.
