Foreign travel 'is a necessity'
Consumers in the UK now consider holidays abroad as a necessity rather than a luxury, a new report has revealed.
According to travel firm Thomas Cook, the British public feels the need to take holidays in order to enjoy some respite from their busy lives.
This has prompted the firm to recommend that people manage their finances accordingly and make sure they stick to a set budget.
Thomas Cook stated that going away should be fun and that being sensible with money would allow people to get more from their holiday.
Mark Nancarrow, spokesperson for the company, commented: "As we continue to travel, budgeting will become more important than ever during what is seen by many as a current period of instability."
According to figures from Thomas Cook, about ten million holidaymakers do not set themselves a budget, while one in ten of those that do fail to stick to it.
This comes after research by The Network found that most independent travel agents are expecting this year's number of holiday bookings to be up on 2007.
