Foreign properties 'should be accessible'

People who are thinking of investing in overseas property markets have been advised to purchase in an easily accessible area.

Amanda Lamb, presenter of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, said that if people were buying a rental property, it had to be in easy reach for the maximum number of people.

She suggested that people consider tourist-focused resorts that were located near to an international airport, as budget airlines would make the area accessible and affordable for travellers.

Ms Lamb commented: "Although some people like to get away from other Brits abroad, you'll increase your chances of renting the property if you make it as accessible as possible."

She was speaking after research by Yorkshire Bank found that only one in five potential buyers would buy a property near to an airport.

The study also showed that just 18% would buy in a popular tourist resort, while almost half were prepared to risk limiting their property's appeal to potential renters by decorating it to their own taste.

Earlier this month, travel search engine Kayak.co.uk said that three-quarters of people in the UK were thinking about taking a foreign holiday over the Christmas period.
