Foreign investment 'offers economic benefits to Brazil'
Brazilian officials have welcomed an influx of foreigners choosing to live and work in the country.
Oziel Oliveira, mayor of Luis Eduardo Magalhaes, said the arrival of overseas investors had provided numerous economic benefits.
Speaking to BBC News, he highlighted the foreign people who had set up farms in the area, as they had helped boost the economy with their output and impact on land values.
Mr Oliveira commented: "This was land that was practically all cerrado [savannah or grassland] which is now being occupied and has brought an economic benefit for us all."
He added that he was aiming to attract more foreign investment, the proceeds of which could go towards improving and expanding the region's transport network.
Meanwhile, the news provider noted the various indicators of increasing prosperity in the town, such as the number of new cars on the roads.
Earlier this week, independent analysts Amberlamb said that the Brazilian government was actively courting foreign property buyers in an attempt to boost investment in the country.
