Foreign holiday 'is no longer a luxury'
Taking a trip to another country can no longer be considered an unnecessary indulgence, experts have stated.
According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), consumers now believe a holiday overseas is a vital part of their lives.
As a result, they are unwilling to sacrifice foreign trips, even though they are experiencing financial constraints as a result of the credit crunch.
Ian Bradley, spokesperson for AITO, commented: "It's not a luxury - it's a necessity for most people."
He said this is because people believe they are working harder for longer, hence the need for a proper break.
Mr Bradley added that holiday bookings for next year are at already at healthy levels, as people are budgeting for their breaks well in advance.
According to a recent survey by ebookers, only one in ten people in the UK consider a foreign holiday a luxury.
