Expert predicts Bulgarian golf market will offer investors new property opportunities

The expanding golf holiday market in Bulgaria could offer property investors new opportunities, according to one expert.

Currently, some 12 new 18-hole golf courses are in development and 5 of these should be finished by the start of 2008, the Novinite news agency reported.

Chris Goodall, managing director of the Quest Bulgaria magazine, was quoted as saying that many developers are creating a variety of attractions alongside golf courses, such as spas, tennis courts and horse riding centres - features that will offer "year-round appeal".

He explained: "Five signature courses - from the likes of Ian Woosnam, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player - are planned."

"Golf is offering buyers the opportunity to buy top real estate not linked specifically to sea or ski," Mr Goodall added.

Last year, legendary golfer Gary Player was quoted by the Sofia Echo as saying that the next Tiger Woods could well come from Bulgaria.

He added that golf has a "great future" in the country, with a favourable climate, hospitable people and excellent traditional cuisine.
