Expert: No cause for alarm in Portugal
Portuguese investors should not be overly concerned about the current instability in credit markets that is affecting much of the world, one expert has said.
Carlos Tavares, the president of stock market regulator CMVM told local paper Diario Economico, said that the current financial climate is unsteady, but his organisation is taking regular meetings to deal with any issues - should they arise.
Describing Portugal's direct involvement with the credit crunch that has dominated headlines in England as "residual", he noted that elsewhere the problem is continuing to evolve.
"We should not underestimate this situation saying it is temporary but on the other hand nobody can say that the situation will be amplified," Forbes cites the Portuguese paper as reporting.
However, figures released recently by Nationwide found that the British housing market has also stood up well to the crunch, with a 0.7 per cent growth in September.
