Expats 'disillusioned with the UK'

British people are choosing to move abroad because they are disillusioned with the UK, an expert has stated.

According to Liam Clifford of Global Visas, many Britons are particularly aggrieved with the amount they are paying out in tax.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said the current tax regime is widely perceived to be "punishing" those who are in full-time employment.

As a result, many are choosing to escape the high bills and rising living costs by setting up home overseas.

Mr Clifford added that this has led to a surge in the amount of business Global Visas has received in recent months.

He commented: "We are swamped - our turnover has increased by more than 70%."

According to Jill Rutter of the Institute for Public Policy Research, Britons are increasingly moving abroad because they are more affluent than in the past.

She told the Guardian that a record number of people are choosing to relocate overseas each year.
