Expats boost Bupa's profits
The popularity of moving abroad has been reflected in new trading figures from a private health organisation.
A statement from healthcare group Bupa said that in the six months to June 30th, the company saw a 47 per cent increase in profits, which were recorded at £166 million.
This was attributed to numerous factors, such as an increase in customer numbers and good economic conditions.
In particular, the organisation highlighted the contribution made by British expats, many of whom were purchasing private medical insurance cover.
This shows the increased numbers and commercial influence showed by people choosing to purchase an overseas property and relocate their permanently.
Overall, the number of people purchasing health insurance with the company rose by 3%, contributing to revenues of £956.6 million.
According to official figures, approximately 385,000 Britons moved abroad between July 2005 and July 2006.
