Exchange rate 'boosting Turkey's appeal'

Turkey is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination for UK people due to its favourable exchange rate.

Julian Neal, global marketing director at currency specialist Travelex, said that the country "looks set to grow in popularity" among British travellers because the pound is still performing well there.

In a development that could have implications for overseas property investors in Turkey, he said the exchange rate, combined with the year-round warm climate, is making the nation extremely attractive to UK visitors.

Meanwhile, the Guardian also recently highlighted Turkey's status as a budget-friendly holiday destination, naming Istanbul as a potential alternative for Christmas shoppers unable to afford seasonal favourites such as New York.

According to the newspaper, the Turkish capital offers "significantly better value, not to mention cheaper flights" than the US city.

Figures from the Turkish tourism board reveal that Istanbul has seen an 18% increase in British visitors this year.
