European holidaymakers head to Turkey
The Turkish city of Antalya has been named as the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean basin.
According to the Europe-Turkey Tourism Business Council, Antalya attracted more visitors than any other city in the region last year, reports the Turkish Press.
Huseyin Baraner, chairman of the organisation, also revealed that in the last 12 months, demand for tourist accommodation has gone up by almost a third.
He described Antalya as "the shining star of Europe", adding that it is currently very popular with holidaymakers from across the continent.
Mr Baraner said a large number of German holidaymakers have visited the region in the last year, along with lots of Russians, Romanians and Ukrainians.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Press has revealed that the amount of money generated by the tourism industry has gone up this year.
According to official figures, revenues in the first quarter of 2008 were 28.4 per cent higher than they were a year earlier.
