Emerging markets 'popular with travellers'
The number of passengers travelling from a regional hub to several emerging property markets has increased, according to new figures.
Birmingham International Airport (BIA) stated that it handled 969,407 people during September, of which 327,225 were charter passengers.
An increasing number of travellers were found to be flying to countries such as Turkey, which has recently attracted widespread interest from overseas property investors because of its popularity as a tourist destination.
The country saw a 10.9% increase in charter traffic, while growth was also recorded in the African hotspot of Morocco, which recorded a surge of 5.5%.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of BIA, commented: "It has been a busy summer here at Birmingham Airport with travellers taking advantage of the unrivalled choice of summer routes that BIA has to offer the region."
This comes after Morocco's department of tourism published data showing that between January and July 2007, the number of tourists visiting the country was 10% higher than in the previous year.
