Economists rate Bulgaria's tourism industry

Bulgaria has been named as one of the leading countries for tourism by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Ranked 54th overall in the global rankings for tourism, in the category of tourism infrastructure the country is propelled up to 25th.

The category includes the provision and quality of hotel rooms, the number of ATMs accepting Visa cards as well as the presence of major car rental companies.

Compiled by the WEF, the Travel & Tourism report is the first time the organisation has analysed tourism, competitiveness and economic development in one document.

The country was also among the top ranked for national tourism perception, placing 30th in the list of 124 countries.

Bulgaria had almost 5 million international tourist arrivals in 2005 and netted international tourism receipts of $2,429 million (£1,247 million) according to the report.
