Economic downturn fuels migration

Continuing economic problems in the UK are encouraging more and more people to consider moving abroad, experts have stated.

According to Shelter Offshore, about 5 million British nationals now live in another country full-time.

The website believes that at least another million people could be set to relocate during the next five years, largely because they are unhappy with life in the UK.

High property values were flagged up as one contributing factor, as many are upset that their children cannot afford to get on the housing ladder.

Furthermore, the online portal said lots of Britons do not believe they can afford to retire comfortably and are therefore relocating to a new home.

Shelter Offshore commented: "For an increasing number of Britons it is the only way they can escape the economic woes of a nation whose housing market is on the brink of a sharp fall."

This comes after Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch UK, told the Daily Mail that people are also leaving the UK because they are worried about rising crime rates.
