easyJet opens up Turkey to budget holidaymakers
Low cost airline easyJet has announced that it will be running new flights from popular UK airports to destinations in Turkey this summer.
The move follows an announcement by the UK airline Monarch that it would be cashing in on the increase in demand for Turkish holidays by upping the number of flights to Dalaman, Antalya and Bodrum. Monarch said it had experienced a 200% increase in demand in 2009.
The new easyJet routes will connect Liverpool, Bristol and Stansted with Bodrum, and Stansted and Liverpool with Dalaman.
In total four flights a week will run between Stansted and Dalaman, costing less than £60 for a return. This suggests that Turkey may see an influx of Brits hoping to get a cheap deal on a holiday abroad, driving up demand for accommodation.
As Turkey is outside the eurozone, holidaymakers will also get more for their pound that in other popular destinations like Spain and Greece. The pound is currently worth 2.36 Turkish lira and 1.11 euros.
Durham and Exeter airports will also both be increasing the number of flights they run to Turkey in summer 2010.
