Eastern Europe 'is a good investment'

Eastern European markets could offer good opportunities to foreign investors, according to an expert.

Fund manager Ion Florescu told the Financial Times that although countries such as Romania were not seen as particularly exotic, they offered a range of good economic conditions.

Speaking to the newspaper, he said that since the fall of communism in eastern Europe, the level of growth in the region had been strong, resulting in tangible benefits such as improved infrastructure.

Specifically, he highlighted the creation of new transport links, with the government putting money into facilities such as bridges and roads.

He added that money was also being put into airports, allowing the country to strengthen its links with other nations and attract visitors from overseas.

This comes after research commissioned by the Telegraph found that new EU member states such as Romania were potentially lucrative options for foreign property buyers.

Knight Frank said the country was a good market to consider because it was experiencing an increase in employment levels, incomes and productivity.
