Eastern Europe becoming more popular

A growing number of international leisure travellers are choosing to visit eastern Europe, a media outlet has revealed.

Forbes spoke to numerous professionals from the travel and financial exchange sectors, all of whom highlighted the growing popularity of countries such as Bulgaria and Romania.

Experts cited a number of reasons for their increasing appeal among holidaymakers, such as their leisure attractions, history and culture.

Julia Glozman from the New York-based Complete Travel and Visa Centre added that exchange rates were also an important factor.

She commented: "People go where their currency is strong," adding that ticket and visa sales for eastern Europe have "soared" in recent years.

Forbes added that the recent extension of the Schengen Agreement, which allows people to use one visa when travelling between members of the accord, had also opened up many eastern European destinations.

Countries including Poland and the Czech Republic signed up to the agreement just before Christmas 2007.
