Dubrovnik stages historic meeting of ships
Dubrovnik played host to a historic meeting of cruise liners earlier this week when two Holland America vessels met at the same port during their grand voyages - a first in the company's 134-year history.
A special event was held for the 2,000 guests, attended by luminaries such as the mayor of Dubrovnik, the US ambassador to Croatia and the Dutch ambassador to Croatia.
The holidaymakers were treated to performances from a local children's choir and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra.
Stein Kruse, chief executive officer and president of Holland America Line, said that Dubrovnik had been an excellent venue for the celebrations.
"We thank the people of Dubrovnik for extending their warm hospitality to our guests," he said.
The two cruise liners, Prisendam and Amsterdam - the latter of which is Holland America's flagship - are part of the company's 13-strong fleet that tour the world on cruises.
Dubrovnik has proven to be a popular resort for cruise line operators. Earlier this week, Windstar motor sailing yacht firm described Croatia as a "perfect cruising destination" and a "new hot spot for travellers".
