Dublin Airport sees growth in passenger numbers
Dublin Airport has reported a significant year-on-year increase in the number of passengers it has handled.
According to figures from the transport hub, 1.9 million people passed through its terminals last month.
This is 9% higher than the figure recorded during the same period of 2007 and works out to more than 5,000 extra passengers a day.
Dublin Airport commented: "Growth during the month was boosted with two bank holiday weekends in quick succession as Easter fell in March."
Continental Europe was found to be especially popular, with more 900,000 people heading to countries such as Spain and Italy.
However, a surge in demand for flights to non-European destinations such as north Africa was also observed.
This comes soon after it was announced that 450 million is to be spent on improving and modernising Dublin Airport this year.
